Please, share this story:
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has annulled the suspension order placed on former governor of Ogun State, Senator Gbenga Daniel, by the state chapter of the APC.
In a letter issued by the leadership of the party in Abuja, it stated that Daniel, representing Ogun East in the National Assembly, remains a bona fide member of the party in Ogun State.
The letter, which was signed by the APC National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Bashiru, and dated November 17, was reportedly conveyed to the Ogun State Chairman of the party.
The issue of who gets the ticket for Ogun East Senatorial District for 2027 has reportedly caused the rift between the former governor and Governor Dapo Abiodun.
Whereas Daniel aspires to go back to the Senate for a second term, Governor Abiodun, who completes his second term in office as governor in 2007, is reportedly eyeing the Red Chamber.
The two APC giants are from the same senatorial district.
But the national leadership of the party stated in the letter that the statutory body saddled with the responsibility to look into such matters was yet to deliberate or investigate any alleged anti-party activities against Daniel.
The NWC stated that Daniel remains a member of the party and directed organs of the party in the state not to issue any correspondence until such a time that the highest administrative organ would have investigated and deliberated on the alleged suspension.
The statement reads: “I bring you compliments from the National Secretariat of our great party and write to inform you that the party has been inundated with the recent notice of suspension of the Distinguished AT representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Sen. Otunba Olugbenga Daniel.
“Please, take note that the NWC is yet to deliberate on this matter as provided in Articles 21.3(d & e) of the party constitution.
“Consequent upon this, you are hereby requested to allow the National Working Committee to investigate the matter and take an informed decision on the suspension before issuing any further public correspondence on this matter. Until then, Sen. Otunba Olugbenga Daniel remains a bona fide member of the party.
But the Executive Committee of the APC in Ward 4, Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State, insisted that Daniel remain suspended.
A statement by the Chairman of APC Ward 4 in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State, Adebayo Ismail, and the Secretary, Durojaiye Oluwole, said in line with the party’s constitution, the NWC of the party cannot issue any directive to review, nullify, set aside, or reverse the valid suspension earlier imposed on Daniel by the appropriate party organs in Ogun State.
