NUC approves 7 new academic programmes for EKSU

Following the outcome of the May, 2025 Resource Verification Visit carried out by panels of experts from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for the assessment of human and material resources available for some programmes, to ensure the institution’s compliance with national academic standard, the commission has approved the commencement of full-time mode for seven new academic programmes in Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti.

A statement by the institution’s Deputy Registrar/Head, Directorate of Information and Corporate Affairs, Bode Olofinmuagun, on Monday, disclosed that the news was received with excitement by the management, staff, and students of the university.

Ologinmuagun said the development marked another major stride in the university’s drive towards academic excellence and honour.

“According to the letter conveying the approval, the newly-approved programmes include B.Sc. Mechatronics Engineering, B.Sc Agricultural Economics, B.Sc. Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, B.Sc. Animal Science, B.Sc. Crop Science, B.Sc. Horticulture and Landscape Management and B.Sc. Soil Science.

“The letter, dated 17th July, was signed by NUC’s Acting Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar M. Girei, on behalf of the Executive Secretary of NUC, and addressed to the Vice Chancellor of the university.

“Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Joseph Babatola Ayodele, described the approval as a dream come true and a product of relentless efforts by the academic and administrative staff of the university.

“He added that this milestone reflected the university’s unwavering commitment to expanding educational frontiers and addressing the evolving needs of contemporary society.

“The vice chancellor appreciated the Ekiti State governor and Visitor to the university, His Excellency, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji; the chancellor of the university, Dr. Tunji Olowolafe; and the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council, Professor Akin Oyebode, for their impactful efforts and interest in growing the university globally.

“With this development, prospective students can now apply for admission into these newly-approved programmes starting from the 2025/2026 academic session,” the statement read.
