Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has reacted to allegations in which he was accused by his daughter, Mrs Jane Edidiong Ufot of attempting to use her for a ritual sacrifice just the same way the late Governor Eno’s wife and others were used.
In the video, Jane alleged that her life was in danger, claiming she feared meeting the same fate as her mother and brother, who she said died under suspicious circumstances. She called on the public to hold the governor responsible if anything were to happen to her.
Addressing the controversy during a press briefing in Uyo, the state capital, Governor Eno dismissed the video as an old clip being weaponized by political detractors. He emphasized that his family remains united.
“My family is intact and you can see all of them here,” Eno stated. “The event you are referring to occurred right after my wife passed away last year. So why is the video suddenly trending now, on the eve of our second anniversary in office?”
He suggested that the timing of the video’s resurgence is politically motivated. “That teaches me there are detractors around,” he said. “But I remain focused. I will not be distracted. I will continue to serve the good people of Akwa Ibom.”
Pointing to his daughter, he added: “That’s Jane herself there. We are a good family. Even in politics, family should be off limits.”
