58-year-old man jumps inside well in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has revealed that a 58-year-old man, Adeleye Alani committed suicide by jumping inside a well in the Ori-Osoko Community in Abeokuta, Ogun State on Tuesday.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Omolola Odutola, disclosed that the incident occurred in the late hours of the day adding that the brother of the deceased reported to the police division in the area that the wife of the deceased informed him about the unfortunate incident.

The brother narrated to the police that the wife of the deceased said she could not locate the whereabouts of her husband on the said day, and after a search, the deceased’s slippers were found near the well in their compound.

She said, “The Ogun State Police Command regrets to report a tragic incident of suicide in Ori-Osoko Community, Olokuta, where a 58-year-old man, Adeleye Olusegun Alani, ended his life by jumping into a well.

“The incident was reported on March 12, 2025, at about 06:00 hrs by Adeleye Olukunle Olubunmi, who informed the Kemta Divisional Police Headquarters that he had received distressing news from his brother’s wife, Adetoyin Taiwo Adeleye Esq., a resident of Ori-Osoko Community.

“According to the report, Adetoyin returned home around 22:30 hrs on March 11, 2025, only to find her husband missing. A search around the premises led to the discovery of his slippers beside their house well, raising suspicions. To her dismay, she later realized that her husband had jumped into the well, taking his own life.”

Odutola noted that police officers were deployed to the scene of the incident and the body of the deceased was recovered and deposited at a morgue for further investigation.

While condoling with the family of the deceased, the PPRO urged residents of the state to always seek support during difficult situations.

“Upon receiving the report, police operatives were immediately mobilized to the scene, where the body was recovered, and photographic documentation was taken.

“The deceased’s remains have been deposited at the mortuary, and an investigation is currently ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The Ogun State Police Command expresses its condolences to the bereaved family and urges community members to seek emotional and psychological support during difficult times,” the PPRO said.
