Journalist releases book on Fela online preparatory to another launch on Sunday

As the maiden book launch on the late Olu Makinde, father of entertainment journalist Tade Makinde (II), approaches, an online distributor, TAM, has been engaged to distribute the first book to be written by the same journalist to Nigerians and Africans online. It is now available on tam.ng

Titled “Fela Anikulapo-Kuti: Bruised. Battered. Beloved”, the book has been exclusively available only on Amazon and a lot of Nigerians have not been able to buy copies.

Come February 16, 2025, Makinde’s second book, titled “Olu Makinde: Master of His Game, and his first to be available in print, will be launched at the iconic Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan, at 1:00 PM.

Dignitaries expected are Ambassador (Dr) Yemi Farounbi, Senator Femi Ojudu, Dr (Engr) Dotun Sanusi, Dr Badmus Olagoke, and Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin, Speaker of Oyo State, whose late father, Adeseun Ogundoyin, among a few others, will be given special recognition awards for the roles they played in helping late Olu Makinde, to successfully crown Sunny Ade as King of Music in Ibadan in 1977 after he emerged winner in an organised musical competition.

Other dignitaries expected are Segun Odegbami, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano State, Araba Yemi Elebuibon, Princess Aderonke Adedoja, and Oloye Lekan Akogun.

Olu Makinde died in Ado Ekiti 10 years ago, and in celebrating the popular journalist, the family will launch a book in his memory, as well as inaugurate a foundation after him as well.

His son, Tade, worked with The Daily Times under Chinaka Fynecountry and at the Nigerian Tribune, from where he joined a New York media organization with offices in Ibadan and Lagos as the Director of Content.
