The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reportedly unveiled a new socio-political movement known as the Renewed Hope Family in Rivers State, declaring that both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have effectively ceased to exist in the state.
Wike made the declaration during his ongoing “thank-you” tour of supporters across Rivers State’s 23 local government areas, which commenced on Friday, January 9, 2026.
Speaking during visits to Andoni Local Government Area on Friday and Saturday, the former Rivers State governor said the APC and PDP had merged into what he described as a “rainbow coalition” operating under the Renewed Hope Family.
According to Wike, the Renewed Hope Family, which he currently leads, has taken full control of the political structures across all 23 local government areas in the state.
“There is no longer party politics in Rivers State. What we have is a rainbow coalition under the Renewed Hope Family, driven by a shared purpose and common interest,” he said.
Wike further announced that the group would support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. However, he stated that the decision to support the emergence of Governor Siminalayi Fubara in 2023 was a mistake that would not be repeated.
Reflecting on the 2023 elections, Wike said his political camp took a calculated risk by supporting Tinubu, despite resistance from many quarters.
He added that the outcome had justified their decision, citing his appointment as FCT minister as evidence.
“Many people were reluctant to support Bola Ahmed Tinubu, but we took the risk. Today, God has vindicated that decision. Who would have imagined that someone from the South-South, a Rivers indigene, would become Minister of the Federal Capital Territory?” he said.
Wike urged his supporters to sustain their commitment to Tinubu’s leadership, stressing that support for the President was non-negotiable. He added that decisions on Rivers State’s internal political arrangements would be made at the appropriate time.
“On local politics, a decision will be taken when the time comes. But for now, we have resolved to correct the mistake we made,” he added.
Although Wike’s continued involvement in Rivers State politics has been linked to the lingering political crisis in the state—including the impeachment notice issued against Governor Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Ordu, by the Martin Amaewhule-led House of Assembly—he avoided direct comments on the legislature-executive conflict.
Instead, Wike praised the cordial relationship between the executive and legislature during his tenure as governor, describing it as robust and anchored on due process, particularly in the screening and appointment of government officials.
He expressed appreciation to his supporters in Andoni and urged them to remain loyal to the leadership of the Renewed Hope Family.
“Today marks the 20th local government area we have visited within a week and a few days. If others attempt to replicate what you have done, they will struggle. One thing is certain—we have taken over the local government council. Continue to pray,” he said.
Wike also called for unity as a catalyst for development in Rivers State, noting that unity had previously driven progress in Andoni Local Government Area.
He criticised certain individuals he described as “one-man Iroko” figures in Andoni, accusing them of hindering development projects, including the completion of the Unity Road.
He commended the current leadership in the area, stating that meaningful development could only be achieved through collective effort.
The lawmaker representing Andoni in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Ofiks Kagbang Christopher, praised Wike’s contributions to the constituency and pledged continued loyalty to his political direction ahead of the 2027 elections.
“I am an Ijaw son, and the Ijaw people are grateful people. What happened in Government House was a mistake, and that mistake will be corrected at the appropriate time,” he said.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Andoni Local Government Council, Prince Otuo, said Wike had successfully united political leaders in the area to mobilise support for President Tinubu’s second-term bid. He thanked the former governor for employment opportunities and developmental projects executed during his administration.
Other Andoni leaders, including former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Awaji Ikunyi Ibani, commended Wike for his political acumen and contributions to the growth and development of the area.
