As the Lenten season begins, Christians have been charged to use the period to pray for Nigeria and the world in general for peace and progress to reign.

The call was made by the Chairman of Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Hon. Bamidele Omoleye while speaking with newsmen in his office in Ido-Ekiti, the headquarters of Ido/Osi Local Government area of the State.

Omoleye who noted that the Lenten Season was in commemoration of how Jesus Christ fasted and prayed for forty days and nights in the wilderness as well as of his death and resurrection, urged Christians to emulate the teachings of the savior of the world adding that such will breathe peace, tranquility, and progress into all spheres of the Nation’s economy.

“Christians must be disciplined to help us renew our relationships with God; while prayers and fasting deepen our relationship with God, it also sharpens our will and helps us evaluate things we might be attached to in an unhealthy way.”

He assured that the country would be better if all believers could call on God with a pure heart.

The council boss while saying that Christians used fasting to totally humble themselves as worldly things were avoided, also pointed out that it was a period to seek the face of God and totally repent from sins.

He called on Christians as they prayed for themselves and their families to remember Nigeria and her leader’s prayers, stressing that the prayers of the saints will help the leaders in the governance to make good decisions and policies that would better the lots of all citizens.

He stressed the need for Christians to ask for the Holy Spirit so as not to go back to sins after forty days to achieve God’s purpose of being created.
