The Senate of the University of Ibadan (UI) has approved the withdrawal of 226 undergraduate students as a result of poor academic performance in the 2024/2025 academic session.

It was learnt that the decision to ask the 226 students to withdraw was taken by the university’s apex decision-making in the university on Monday at its meeting.

Sources said the results of both graduating and non-graduating students of the university were ratified, during which the Senate directed that students with a Cumulative Grade Point Average below 1.0 to withdraw from the institution.

Sources gave the breakdown of the affected students as 79 from the Faculty of Science, 45 from the Faculty of Technology, 35 from the Faculty of Agriculture, 18 each from the College of Medicine and Faculty of Education as well as 10 from the Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources.

Others are 9 from the Faculty of Arts, 4 each from the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, 3 from the Faculty of Law, 2 from Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and 3 from the Faculty of Environmental Design and Management.

Contacted, the director of Public Communication, Mrs Adejoke Akinpelu, confirmed the withdrawal directive of the university’s senate to the affected 226 students.

Mrs. Akinpelu added that the affected students were advised to withdraw due to poor academic performance and that the exercise is a normal academic appraisal process.

“They were advised to withdraw across the faculties and programmes at all the levels because their CGPA fell below 1 point. It is a normal academic appraisal process,” she said.
