Two factions of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) clashed today, at the National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.
This followed the ongoing battle between the factions to gain control of the Secretariat.
The Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led faction and the expelled members of the party loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Nyesom Wike on Monday scheduled important meetings at the Secretariat.
Members of the Wike-led faction, who were expelled from the party recently, earlier announced an emergency meeting to be held at the National Executive Council, NEC Hall of the National Secretariat.
However, in a dramatic turn of event, Dr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, who was recently elected as the National Chairman of the main opposition party in the just concluded National Elective Convention in Ibadan, announced another meeting in the same hall.
Turaki spoke on Monday evening while addressing journalists after submitting a petition at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Garki against the expelled members.
According to him, the party “will hold its inaugural National Executive meeting tomorrow, November 18, at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja’.
He vowed that “nothing will stop him and his colleagues from meeting tomorrow at the office. Even if it takes our lives, we’ve take over Wadata Plaza, Taminu Turaki declares
Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary of the pro-Wike faction, was the first to arrive at the Wadata Plaza with some members of the faction.
While addressing journalists in his office before the arrival of the other faction, Anyanwu had said the security beef up was normal was to prevent breakdown of law and order.
He said his faction was ready for Board of Trustees (BoT) and the National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings.
Shortly after, members of the Taminu Turaki faction also arrived the headquarters but were prevented from going in.
Commotion reportedly ensued as police fired teargas.

Two governors, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State forced their way in, but as the other members of the faction tried to make their way in, security operatives fired gunshots and also released teargas to disperse them.
The situation triggered confusion as many scuttled to safety.
There is currently tension at the headquarters.
