Snake kills 200-Level university student in Kogi

A 200 Level student of Biotechnology of the Federal University of Lokoja (FUL) Kogi State, Favour, has reportedly died of snake bite.

The tragic incident was confirmed in a statement issued by the Students’ Union Government (SUG) Public Relations Officer, Comrade Baye, who described the development as painful and devastating to students and staff alike.

According to details made available, the incident occurred on Thursday night, December 18, 2025 at Itakeate Isao, where the student was reportedly bitten by a snake.

She was immediately rushed to a nearby medical facility in a bid to save her life.

“It was gathered that she was bitten by a snake on Thursday night and was immediately rushed to the Isanlu General Hospital for urgent treatment. Sadly, despite all efforts, she could not survive and passed on.”

The news of her death was said to have spread quickly across campus, triggering shock, sorrow, and an outpouring of condolences from students, lecturers, and university officials

The Students’ Union Government expressed deep sympathy with the bereaved family, as well as Favour’s friends, classmates, and course mates in the Department of Biotechnology, noting that the loss was one that would be deeply felt across the university.

“This loss is heartbreaking and difficult to accept. Our hearts go out to her family, friends, and course mates during this moment of grief.”

The SUG also called on students to remain calm and supportive of one another during the period of mourning, while urging the university management and relevant authorities to pay attention to safety concerns within and around student residential areas.

“May God grant them strength, and may Favour’s gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”
