Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of misleading Nigerians with false statistics about Nigeria’s economy.
Obi asserted that Tinubu has continued to deceive Nigerians with false statistics, pretending as if the economy is rebounding.
In a statement posted on his official X account on Monday, Obi recalled Tinubu’s 2022 campaign speech in Delta State, where he criticized him (Obi) and dismissed the use of statistics, declaring instead that he would focus on putting food on Nigerians’ tables.
“Now two years into his four-year tenure, Nigeria is classified as one of the hungriest nations in the world with millions of Nigerians not knowing where their next meal will come from,” Obi stated.
He accused Tinubu of now relying on misleading data to paint a false picture of the country’s economic situation.
“President Tinubu is now overfeeding Nigerians with wrong statistics—from wrong unemployment figures, wrong inflation figures, and now GDP rebasing—all to put a positive spin on our deteriorating economic and household conditions,” he said.
Obi emphasized that governance is not rocket science nor a gamble, but a responsibility that requires “sincerity of purpose, character, competence, capacity, and compassion”.
