The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, has formally approached the Supreme Court to challenge the March 9, 2026 judgment of the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division.

In court filings, the party argued that the Ibadan National Convention was conducted in full compliance with the PDP Constitution (as amended) and the Electoral Act 2022, insisting that the mandate of the current NWC remains valid and binding.

The PDP maintained that the authority conferred on the Turaki-led leadership was derived from the party’s highest decision-making body—the National Convention—and cannot be overturned through what it described as selective judicial interpretations or internal administrative actions.

As part of its legal strategy, the party’s counsel has also filed an application seeking an interlocutory injunction and a stay of execution of the Appeal Court judgment.

The move is aimed at preventing any individual or group, including what the party described as a proposed “illegal caretaker committee,” from taking over or interfering in the affairs of the party pending the final determination of the case by the Supreme Court.

The PDP expressed confidence that the apex court will uphold the legitimacy of its leadership and provide clarity on the dispute, which has deepened internal tensions within the party.
