Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and secretary of the National Convention Organizing Committee, Ben Obi, has cleared the air saying the party’s convention that took place on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, was properly and duly constituted.

He added that everything done during the convention, including the election of new officers, was legal.

Obi stated this on Tuesday when he appeared as a guest in an interview on ‘Prime Time,’ a program on Arise Television.

He said, “It’s unfortunate, but let’s put the record straight. The outgone National Working Committee (NWC) was an 18-man NWC. The chairman, Umar Damagum, had with him 13 members of the NWC as opposed to four.

“The National Executive Committee (NEC) at its 102nd meeting on 25th August, 2025, informed INEC, which has the mandatory 21 days to be informed of this convention.

“INEC acknowledged. So the truth of the matter is, as a party manager myself, INEC, the Nigeria police, and the Department of State Services (DSS) were duly informed. The police and INEC participated,” he said.
