The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has formally resigned from his position in the Federal Executive Council to focus on his governorship ambition in Oyo State.
Adelabu conveyed his resignation in a letter dated March 26th, 2026, addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which was routed through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, he expressed gratitude to the President for the opportunity to serve in the administration, describing his tenure as Minister of Power as a privilege and an honour.
He acknowledged the confidence reposed in him and appreciated the chance to contribute to reforms and development efforts in Nigeria’s power sector under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The former minister explained that his decision to step down was motivated by his intention to contest the governorship election in Oyo State.
According to him, leaving office would enable him to fully dedicate his time and resources to his political ambition ahead of the 2027 governorship race.
Adelabu reaffirmed his respect and appreciation for President Tinubu and pledged his continued commitment to national service.
Before his appointment as minister, Adelabu served as a Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
