Chief Opral Benson, the Iya Oge of Lagos and wife of former Information Minister, late Chief TOS Benson, who was declared missing three weeks ago has been found.
The wife of late Benson, was found in Liberia according to a family source .
The family confirmed on Tuesday evening, that the 90-year-old socialite may be dealing with age-related health challenges, possibly dementia.
“They have located her in Liberia. I think she might be suffering from dementia due to old age,” the source disclosed.
The alarm was raised on Sunday after Benson’s whereabouts remained unknown for over 48 hours. According to a public notice issued by the family, she was last seen on January 13, 2026, and had not returned home since then.
Describing the situation as time-sensitive, the family appealed to the public for urgent assistance.
“The family reports that Mama Opral Benson has been missing since Tuesday, January 13, 2026. She has not returned home and her current whereabouts are unknown,” the notice stated.
Members of the public were urged to share any information that could help locate her, no matter how small, and to contact the family or report to the nearest police station.
Attempts by journalists to reach the family through the contact number provided in the notice proved unsuccessful, as calls and text messages went unanswered at the time of filing this report.
Born on February 7, 1935, Opral Benson is an American-Liberian and Nigerian entrepreneur, educator, and socialite. She holds the highly respected traditional title of Iya Oge of Lagos, a position associated with leadership in fashion and cultural affairs.
She was married to the late Chief T.O.S. Benson from 1962 until his death. Over the decades, she built a distinguished career across education, fashion, and corporate administration. Benson manages a fashion and beauty school in Lagos and previously served as a director at Johnson’s Products, the Nigerian affiliate of a multinational brand.
In 2012, she was appointed Honorary Consul of Liberia in Lagos, a role that further strengthened her longstanding ties between Nigeria and Liberia.
While details surrounding how she traveled to Liberia remain unclear, her reported discovery has brought cautious relief to family members and the public, who had followed the case with growing concern.
