The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally recognised Wole Oluyede as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Ekiti State election scheduled for June 20, 2026.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Wole Oluyede Campaign Organisation and made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti by its Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi.
The organisation said INEC released an official list of approved candidates for the election, which included Oluyede as the PDP flag bearer.
The development follows months of controversy after the PDP primary held on November 8, 2025, which Oluyede won. Although INEC monitored the exercise and initially described it as free, fair, and peaceful, the commission later declined to recognise him as the party’s candidate.
The decision was subsequently challenged in court by the PDP and its candidate. In its ruling, the Federal High Court in Abuja declared INEC’s refusal unlawful and ordered the commission to include Oluyede’s name on the ballot.
Reacting to the latest development, the campaign organisation expressed appreciation to PDP members and supporters across Ekiti State for their loyalty and steadfastness throughout the legal battle.
It also assured the electorate that Oluyede would deliver purposeful governance if elected, urging voters to reject inducements and come out en masse to support the PDP at the polls.
The organisation reiterated its call for credible participation in the electoral process, stressing that the future of the state depends on the choices made by voters in the upcoming election.
