A motorcyclist who allegedly slaughtered his wife and concealed the dismembered body in a sack has been arrested by the operatives of the Ogun State Police Command.
The suspect, Godonu Lowe, was arrested by the police while attempting to run away with the sack containing the corpse.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, made this known on Thursday in a statement issued in Abeokuta.
Odutola explained that Lowe was arrested on Wednesday at about 1:05 p.m. by the Divisional Police Officer in Ilaro following credible information received from an anonymous resident.
“The Divisional Police Officer in Ilaro received credible intelligence that a man identified as Godonu Lowe of Omolende Village, Idogo, was attempting to flee the community with the body of a woman concealed in a sack on his motorcycle.
“Acting swiftly, police operatives intercepted the suspect, and a sack tied to the back of his motorcycle was untied.
“The content was discovered to be the corpse of an adult female, later confirmed to be the suspect’s wife.
“The body bore marks of violence, bleeding around the neck, suggesting foul play. A blood-stained cutlass was recovered at the crime scene,” she said.
Odutola said the suspect has been taken into custody while the remains of the victim have been deposited at the State morgue in Ilaro for preservation and autopsy.
The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, while commending the anonymous informant, urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to assist the police in crime prevention and detection.
He emphasized that even the slightest suspicion reported to the police could save lives.
