Please, share this story:
The ancient town of Ikere-Ekiti exploded with energy on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, as thousands of supporters stormed the country home of Wole Oluyede in a massive show of strength, signaling what many now describe as an unstoppable movement to end the rule of Governor Biodun Oyebanji and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The rally, triggered by the official recognition of Oluyede’s candidacy by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after months of legal battles, turned into a political earthquake as party loyalists and undecided voters flooded Ikere in their thousands—estimated at over 20,000.
From Courtroom Victory to Political Tsunami
Addressing the electrified crowd, Oluyede praised the judiciary for standing firm against what many supporters believe were attempts to frustrate his ambition. He also expressed deep appreciation to Ekiti people for standing solidly behind him throughout his legal ordeal.
“Your support kept this struggle alive. Now, victory is within reach,” he declared.
He dismissed claims that his international engagements have distanced him from Ekiti, assuring the people that he remains deeply connected to their struggles and aspirations.
“Ekiti Has Suffered Enough”
In a scathing assessment of the current administration, Oluyede declared that Ekiti has suffered severe decline under the APC government, citing worsening infrastructure, unemployment, and economic hardship.
He painted a grim picture of a state plagued by:
Failing roads and decaying infrastructure
Erratic electricity supply
Rising unemployment
Escalating cost of living
“Ekiti has nosedived under this government. The people are tired, and the time for rescue is now,” he said.
He pledged to restore dignity, revive key sectors, and deliver a government that works for the people—not political elites.
Unity Call Amid Internal Party Tensions
Reacting to internal party disagreements, including the stance of former governor Ayo Fayose, Oluyede struck a reconciliatory tone, stating he holds no personal grudges against party leaders.
However, he warned against actions that undermine the PDP’s chances, urging members to close ranks ahead of the crucial election.
“This is not the time for division. It is time to unite and take back Ekiti,” he stressed.
“We Are Battle-Ready” — PDP Leadership Fires Warning Shot
Ekiti PDP Chairman, Tunji Odeyemi, reinforced the party’s readiness, declaring Oluyede as “the candidate of the people” and assuring that the party remains united despite national-level disputes.
“We are battle-ready. Ekiti people are ready for change,” he said.
A Direct Showdown Looms
With over a dozen political parties in the race, the battle for Ekiti is shaping up to be a fierce contest. However, analysts agree that the real fight lies between the ruling APC and a resurgent PDP, with the ADC also in the mix.
Despite being the incumbent, Oyebanji himself has reportedly warned his supporters against complacency, acknowledging the growing threat from the opposition.
Momentum vs Power: The Battle for Ekiti’s Soul
Political observers note that while incumbency offers advantages, rising public dissatisfaction and growing grassroots momentum could reshape the outcome.
For Oluyede and his supporters, the message is clear: this is more than an election—it is a movement to reclaim Ekiti.
“The people will decide. And this time, they are ready,” a supporter declared.
