Please, share this story:

A group of Ijebus in the Diaspora, under the aegis of the Ijebu People’s Vanguard Assembly in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom, has issued a warning to traditionalists and alleged agents of the Ogun State Government who, according to them, have launched propaganda aimed at condemning and discrediting the work of the kingmakers.

This comes as Princes and Princesses of the Fusengbuwa ruling house have petitioned President Bola Tinubu over the alleged interference of Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, in the selection process for filling the vacant stool of the Awujale of Ijebuland.

They accused Governor Abiodun of plotting to impose his anointed candidate as the next Awujale of Ijebuland.

The Diaspora group, in a statement signed by its leader, Omooba (Barrister) Babs Joseph Adesanwo, warned traditionalists—especially the Osugbo in Ijebu-Ode—to tread softly and not go beyond their bounds in the selection of a new Awujale of Ijebuland.

The warning came amid rumours that there may be a restructuring of the kingmakers after the current ones conclude their assignment.

Omooba Adesanwo further cautioned the Oluwo Osugbo of Ijebu-Ode, Oluwo Bolanle Bakare, to be mindful of his utterances, noting that allegations of bribery levelled against the kingmakers were “too weighty.”

He urged the Oluwo Osugbo to consider the calibre of the kingmakers—whom he described as well-to-do individuals and prominent personalities—before accusing them of collecting bribes or being financially induced by contestants.
Omooba Adesanwo said:

“I am not fighting the head of Osugbo, but those of us abroad have been closely monitoring everything that is going on. If they misbehave, we will tell the whole world because we know there is no place like home.

“Regarding their demand to be included among the kingmakers, they should be patient and wait for their turn.
“They should not allow any government functionary to use them for any sinister purpose.”

Meanwhile, the Princes and Princesses of the Fusengbuwa Royal Family—the ruling house expected to produce the next Awujale—said in their petition to President Tinubu that the actions of Governor Abiodun and his allies concerning the vacant Awujale stool “have sharply divided the people of Ijebu-Ode and the entire Ijebuland, resulting in disquiet among the people.”

They described Governor Abiodun’s repeated denial of interference in the selection process as “tricks and shenanigans.”

“The people of Ijebu-Ode and other stakeholders in Ijebuland have come to understand the governor’s claim of neutrality as a smokescreen to pursue selfish and devilish objectives,” the petition partly read.

The Princes and Princesses further stated that Governor Abiodun’s obsession with imposing his preferred candidate has continued to slow down the process of selecting a new Awujale of Ijebuland.

They therefore urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene and call Governor Abiodun to order over the Awujale selection process.

According to them, President Tinubu’s intervention would restore sanity to the process.

“Your Excellency, it is therefore imperative that you direct Governor Abiodun to hands off all matters relating to the selection of a new Awujale of Ijebuland,” the petition added.

They further warned that the governor’s insistence on imposing a preferred candidate could result in the people of Ijebu-Ode refraining from voting for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in future elections.
