In a decisive move to strengthen grassroots security, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has inaugurated the Ibadan Community Guard to support the fight against insecurity across the metropolis.

The inauguration, held at the Olubadan Palace in Oke Aremo, signals a coordinated effort to enhance surveillance and improve community-based policing across the eleven Local Government Areas of Ibadanland.

Speaking at the event, Oba Ladoja stressed that security is a collective responsibility, noting that the newly formed Community Guard would work closely with conventional security agencies to protect lives and property.

He added that personnel would be strategically deployed across all local governments to ensure effective coverage.

The initiative is seen as a proactive response to growing security concerns in parts of Ibadan, with the aim of reinforcing existing law enforcement structures through local participation.

In addition to the security initiative, the event also featured the unveiling of “Gaari Ibadan,” an economic and food security programme designed to boost local production and promote sustainability. The project is being driven by the Ibadan Economic Investment and Business Development Desk in collaboration with the Ibadan Food Security Initiative.

The ceremony attracted notable dignitaries including former Minister of Industry and Iyalaje Iyalode of Ibadanland, Onikepo Akande; Senator Sharafadeen Alli; Commissioner of Police Fatai Owoseni; prominent entrepreneur Jubril Dotun Sanusi; and the President-General of the Central Council of Ibadanland, Ajeniyi Ajewole, among other distinguished guests.

Observers say the dual launch of security and economic initiatives reflects a broader strategy to address both safety and livelihood concerns within Ibadan, reinforcing community resilience and development.
