The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested 100 commercial tricycle operators, popularly known as Yan Adaidaitasahu over various offences such as selling illicit drugs and substances, as well as allowing opposite sex to sit together in their vehicles

Hisbah board is a security outfit saddled with responsibilities such as ensuring that residents of Kano State comply with Islam doctrine in their daily activities and that violators are punished by the law establishing the organization.

The spokesman of the board, Lawan Ibrahim Fagge revealed on Tuesday in Kano that the operatives of Hisbah apprehended the tricycle operators in different areas of Kano city.

Fagge said that 24 of the suspects were arrested for mixing male and female passengers in their tricycles, 35 people were apprehended for indecent haircuts, and 12 people were arrested with obscene posters pasted on their machines, improper dressing, and other immoral acts.

The Deputy Commander-General of Hisbah, Mujahid Aminuddeen, advised the 100 tricycle operators after their arrest to be good ambassadors of Islam and Kano State by shunning social vices.

He stated ” We want to use this opportunity to appeal to you to avoid such acts and avoid acts capable of tarnishing the image of our religion and culture of Kano people, ”

Among the alleged offenses of the tricycle operators are “immoral haircuts, wearing shorts while operating, pasting objectionable posters on their vehicles, allowing the opposite sex to sit together, selling illegal drugs, and conveying women to places where they engage them in immoral acts.

“As Muslims, we are not going to accept this unholy behavior from the tricycle operators. That is why you are brought here to admonish you so that you change. The board would continue to check such illegal activities among the tricycle operators to arrest the recalcitrant ones.”

The offenders were later released.

The Hisbah command had recently launched an exercise tagged “Operation Kau da Badala”, (Operation Fight against immorality) to fight against immoral activities.
