Former presidential aide, Lauretta Onochie, has claimed that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has lost his grip on power and relevance in Rivers State.
According to a report by Daily Post, on Monday January 5, 2026, Onochie said recent political developments show that Wike has been pushed aside by powerful figures at the national level.
She argued that President Bola Tinubu and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, no longer support Wike’s political interests.
She described Wike’s situation as a major political setback.
According to her, the influence he once enjoyed in Rivers State has faded, while Governor Siminalayi Fubara has emerged stronger.
Onochie stated that political control in Rivers State has shifted fully to Fubara.
She said the governor is now in charge of decisions and direction in the state.
In her view, this change happened because Wike’s former allies decided to move on without him.
She added that Fubara’s future actions would depend on how Wike reacts to his current position.
She suggested that Wike’s past authority and pride could make it difficult for him to adjust to the new political reality.
Onochie claimed that Fubara would regain lost time caused by earlier political tensions in the state.
She said those months slowed governance but would not stop the governor from achieving his goals.
She further predicted that Fubara would win a second term as governor.
According to her, growing support and changing alliances have improved the governor’s chances ahead of future elections.
Onochie said that before the end of 2026, Fubara would play a key role in choosing who succeeds Wike as FCT minister.
She described this as a sign that power has permanently shifted away from the former governor.
“Now, let me break it down for you: Fubara may get back the six months you and President Tinubu stole from him. Then Fubara will get a second term. Fubara will nominate your replacement before the end of 2026. Fubara is your new Godfather,” he said.
