Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Otunba Peter Obafemi, has revealed that women and the youth will play a crucial role in his government if he becomes the state governor.
Obafemi said he “recognizes that the future of Ekiti State hinges on the active participation of all citizens, especially women, and youth.”
A policy paper released by the Olugbenga Peter Obafemi (OPO) Media Vanguard on Thursday noted that the flamboyant politician would build his administration “on the foundation of inclusivity, equity, and empowerment.”
He said: “For too long, the potential of women and young people has been underutilized. However, under Obafemi’s leadership, both women and youth will occupy central roles in decision-making, economic development, and leadership, ensuring that Ekiti State thrives as a progressive and equitable society.
“The youth of Ekiti represent the state’s greatest potential for growth and innovation. With over half of the population under the age of 35, it is crucial to provide them with opportunities to develop their talents, contribute to the state’s economy, and shape the future of the state.
“Otunba Obafemi’s administration will focus on the following initiatives to empower Ekiti’s youth: The government will prioritize improving the education system, ensuring that young people have access to quality education from primary through tertiary levels.
“Special emphasis will be placed on technical and vocational education to equip students with practical skills that are aligned with the job market’s needs.
“To ensure that Ekiti youth are globally competitive, Otunba Obafemi will provide scholarships for academic excellence, as well as opportunities for international exchanges and internships in leading institutions, to broaden their horizons and expose them to global best practices.”
He said job opportunities would be a major focus of his government for the youth and women.
“Women are essential to the development and progress of Ekiti State. Otunba Obafemi is committed to a government that not only empowers women, but also ensures their full participation in all aspects of society, from politics to business, healthcare, and beyond.
“Women will be given access to financial resources, including loans, grants, and credit facilities, to start and grow businesses.
Otunba Obafemi’s administration will work to ensure that women have equal access to business opportunities and the financial tools they need to succeed.
“Women play a critical role in the agricultural sector, and Obafemi’s government will provide them with training, access to modern farming tools, and market linkages to help them become more competitive in the agricultural space.
“Recognising the importance of technology in driving modern economies, Otunba Obafemi’s government will establish programs to support women pursuing careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), including scholarships, mentorship programs, and technology hubs dedicated to women,” the statement said.
