Please, share this story:
The Wole Oluyede Campaign Council has stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has yet to validly present a governorship candidate for the Ekiti State governorship election scheduled for June 20, 2026.
According to the Council, Governor Biodun Oyebanji, whom the APC has been presenting as its candidate, has not been formally recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) due to an unresolved court case challenging the consensus arrangement that produced him.
In a press statement issued on Monday in Ado-Ekiti by the Campaign Council’s Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, the Council disclosed that its findings indicate that Oyebanji’s name has not appeared, and may not appear, on the official ballot.
The Campaign Council gathered that there was no primary election, instead, the APC adopted Biodun Oyebanji as their consensus candidate without any discussion or agreement with the other aspirants.
The Campaign Council accused the Ekiti APC of deliberately misleading the public by circulating fabricated information allegedly attributed to INEC and spreading it on social media for publication, with the intent of deceiving the people of Ekiti State.
Describing the action as a sign of desperation, the Council said the APC-led government, which it alleged has failed to deliver meaningful development, is seeking re-election despite having little to show for the substantial monthly allocations received from the federation account.
The Council further insisted that it had exposed what it described as falsehoods surrounding the APC’s presentation of Governor Oyebanji as its governorship candidate, stressing emphatically that his name is not on the ballot.
It warned Ekiti residents to be wary of what it described as fake INEC documents that the APC may circulate to claim that Oyebanji has been cleared, urging the public to disregard such materials.
The Campaign Council also criticised the APC for mocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Dr Wole Oluyede, over a recent court judgment, expressing confidence that Oluyede would ultimately emerge victorious. It noted that, unlike the APC, the PDP has not resorted to the circulation of fabricated documents to mislead the people of Ekiti State.
