The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the terrorism trial of former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) Abubakar Malami and his son, Abdulaziz Malami, after the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) office assumed responsibility for the prosecution from the State Security Service (SSS).

Rotimi Oyedepo, Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation (DPPF), told the court that his office had just received the case file and needed time to review it.

Judge Joyce Abdulmalik adjourned the matter to March 10 for the prosecution to formally open the trial.

Malami and his son were first arraigned on February 3 on six terrorism-related charges.

The charges include allegedly abetting terrorism financing in November 2022 by failing to prosecute suspected financiers while Malami served as AGF.

They are also accused of possessing a Sturm Magnum firearm, 16 live cartridges, and 27 expended cartridges at their residence in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, in December 2025, without a licence. Both defendants pleaded not guilty.

The court had granted N200 million bail for each defendant, with conditions including surrender of travel documents and provision of sureties with verifiable property.

Separately, Malami, his son, and his wife, Asabe Bashir, face a 16-count money laundering trial before the same court. The charges involve allegedly concealing and retaining N8.7 billion in unlawful proceeds between 2015 and 2025.

Malami is also involved in separate asset forfeiture proceedings over properties in Abuja, Kano, Kaduna, and Kebbi State valued at nearly N213 billion.
