An unconfirmed number of students and staff of St. Mary’s School, a Catholic institution in the Papiri community in Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State have been abducted by bandits overnight.

The terrorists raided the school premises between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m.

A church official and Ahmed Abdullahi Rofia, the Head of Disaster and Relief for Agwara LGA, both confirmed the incident, though the exact number of victims remains unknown as authorities work to compile records.

This attack is the latest in a devastating pattern of school abductions in northern Nigeria, coming just days after 26 students were kidnapped from a school in Maga, Kebbi State.

The escalating crisis has forced drastic measures, including the preemptive closure of more than 50 schools in neighboring Kwara State on Thursday due to rising bandit activity.

The Niger State Police Command has acknowledged the incident, with spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun stating that details would be provided later..
