Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) to be careful not to collapse like the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warning that internal party expansion could lead to serious crises if not properly managed.

Mohammed gave the warning while speaking with journalists after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The governor said the APC must remain vigilant, especially during its primary elections, to avoid a breakdown similar to what the PDP experienced in the past.

According to him, the PDP expanded rapidly but later ran into serious internal problems that weakened the party.

“The APC will need to watch their backs after the primaries, as they are growing larger, much like the PDP. The PDP expanded and ultimately exploded, not imploded,” he said.

Mohammed, who has been involved in leadership disagreements within the PDP, stated that he does not feel isolated in the party and remains committed to its activities.

He stressed that elections are won at the grassroots level rather than through national influence.

“I do not feel lonely because I understand my state, and my intention is to stay back and observe how elections are won at the polling booth. Elections are won locally, not nationally,” he added.

The governor’s comments came amid ongoing political realignments and defections across several states ahead of the 2027 general elections.
