Abdullahi Ganduje, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says the proposed coalition of opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 elections will fail.

He equally dismissed concerns over former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s recent visit to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, saying the APC remains unshaken and focused on strengthening its base.

Ganduje spoke with journalists on Friday during the visit of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) to the residence of former President Muhammadu Buhari in Kaduna.

The APC national chairman said the visit was to greet Buhari for the Sallah celebration and notify him of the achievements of the ruling party since he left office.

Ganduje said the ruling party is not worried about the group of politicians who had earlier visited the former president.

“We are here to pay Sallah greetings to the former president and also we took time to explain to him the achievements of our party as he left it,” the national chairman said

Reacting to Atiku’s earlier visit to Buhari widely interpreted as a possible alignment of political interests, Ganduje said APC is on a solid path.

“That visit is of no concern to us. It’s just another attempt at repeating history, but it won’t work. What they are trying to build is not viable. Some particles simply cannot come together,” he stated.

While avoiding specifics, the APC chairman hinted at strategic plans to counter any opposition moves, assuring the public that the ruling party remains well-prepared.

“We won’t disclose our intricacies or technicalities, but we are equal to the task. The progress President Tinubu has made in strengthening the party even further,” he said.

Ganduje also emphasized the APC’s ambitions beyond the 21 states it currently governs, expressing confidence that the party would win over additional states either through defections or future elections.

“Some governors may join us, or we may defeat them at the polls. Either way, we are expanding our reach. We’re comfortable with where we are, but we are not resting on our oars.”

“Bigwigs from other parties are joining us. The few who left don’t matter in the bigger picture,” he said.
