Top opposition figures in Nigeria are reportedly exploring alternative political platforms as the leadership crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) continues to cast doubt over its readiness for the 2027 general elections.

The uncertainty intensified following the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw recognition from all factions laying claim to the party’s leadership, amid ongoing legal battles and conflicting court rulings.

Prominent politicians, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, are said to have initiated fresh consultations over possible political alternatives.

Sources indicate that the lingering crisis within the ADC could hinder its ability to conduct credible primaries or field candidates for key elective positions.

There are also concerns that candidates who eventually emerge under the platform may face disqualification if the courts rule against the faction that produced them, making participation under the party increasingly uncertain.

As a result, opposition leaders are reportedly assessing other platforms considered more stable. Among the options under review are the Action Peoples Party (APP) and the New Democratic Congress (NDC).

While the APP is viewed as relatively organised with some level of representation in the National Assembly, the NDC—reportedly promoted by former Bayelsa State governor Seriake Dickson—is said to be free of internal disputes for now.

Sources further disclosed that high-level meetings are being planned in Abuja, where opposition figures are expected to deliberate on their next political moves, with outcomes likely to remain confidential until a consensus is reached.

Meanwhile, separate reports indicate that some ADC stakeholders have also opened discussions with the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) as a fallback option.

However, the ADC has dismissed such claims, insisting that the party remains intact despite the ongoing leadership tussle.
