Armed bandits have killed two women among 14 people abducted from Janjala community in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State on March 1, 2026.

It was earlier reported that a vigilante member, his wife, and 12 other residents were taken from the community during the incident.

The kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N14 million from the victims’ families, who made several appeals for leniency, but the demand remained unchanged.

After struggling to raise funds, the families eventually gathered N13 million and delivered it to the abductors. Following the payment, the bandits released the female captives but retained the male victims.

A source said that the ransom was handed over at a location near Hayin Dam forest in neighbouring Kachia Local Government Area on Saturday. The source said the kidnappers later disclosed that two of the women had been killed.

According to the source, the victims were allegedly shot after resisting attempts by some of the bandits to sexually assault them.

“As the girls refused to allow the bandits rape them, their leader ordered them to be shot on the spot,” the source said.

The source further revealed that the abductors insisted they would only free the remaining male captives after receiving the outstanding N1 million and food supplies.

A security source also confirmed the killing of the two women but declined to provide further details.

A community leader corroborated the development, saying, “In fact, it was this afternoon one of the family members of the abducted victims called to inform us that two girls among the victims had been killed.”

Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Hassan Mansur, were unsuccessful, as he neither answered calls nor responded to a text message regarding the incident.
