Ahead of the June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State, preparations are gathering momentum as campaigns begin to dominate the political space.

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Wole Oluyede, has emphatically stated that he relies on God the Father, not any political godfather.
Oluyede made this known during a special interview on New Cruise FM, Ikere Ekiti, on Wednesday. The programme was anchored by Bamidele Okunola and Abiodun Alade and monitored in Ado Ekiti, where he addressed a wide range of issues.

Responding to a question on who his political godfather is, Oluyede said:
“I have God the Father and not a godfather. That is why you see Ekiti people standing by me, as reflected in the restoration rally held in Ikere, my hometown, on Tuesday.”

“Through the restoration rally, the people of Ikere made it clear that they are tired of producing deputy governors. What they want now is the position of governor, which they believe they have found in me.”

He also raised concerns about zoning and fairness in the state’s political leadership.

“Otunba Niyi Adebayo is from the Central, Fayemi is from the North, Fayose is also from the Central. Is that fair to the South? Why should we allow someone who has failed to repeat the class? It ought to be the turn of the South after all these years,” he said.
Oluyede explained that although he was formerly a member of the APC and ADC, he chose the PDP as his political platform.

He added that his experience in different political parties has broadened his support base beyond the PDP.
“I contested the governorship primary against Kayode Fayemi but left due to a lack of internal democracy.

About two years ago, some people approached me and urged me to join the PDP. I considered their plea because of the quality of people there and eventually joined the party,” he said.

The PDP candidate lamented the poor state of roads in Ekiti and promised to develop a robust road network that would attract investors and create wealth for the people.

He described the restoration rally in Ikere Ekiti as an energiser that has further strengthened confidence in the PDP as a viable platform for victory in the June 20 election.

“PDP is now everywhere in Ekiti, as demonstrated by the restoration rally in Ikere. Politics is local, and we are well grounded in the state. Though I am an Australia-based medical doctor, I am very present here—I spend an average of two weeks every month in Ekiti,” he said.
Oluyede disclosed that he has practised medicine in five different countries for over 40 years. He criticised the state’s health budget as inadequate and pledged to generate ₦72 billion annually from the health sector if elected governor.

“Ekiti can generate ₦72 billion from the health sector, but I will not disclose how for now because I don’t want others to copy the idea,” he said.

On education, he assured that it would be accessible, available, and of global standard, with emphasis on science and mathematics, while teachers would be properly trained and motivated for efficiency.
He also promised improved welfare for civil servants and pensioners, including the payment of pensions and gratuities.
Oluyede further assured that Ekiti would achieve independent electricity generation through an Independent Power Plant, ensuring stable power supply without reliance on the national grid.
