The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Wole Oluyede, has launched a scathing attack on the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, accusing it of abandoning the security of lives and property while indulging in reckless spending to secure a second term.
In a strongly worded statement issued by the Campaign Organisation through its Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, Oluyede alleged that the APC-led government has turned its back on the people, prioritising political survival and patronage over the safety of citizens.
“While Ekiti burns, this government is busy paying godfathers and wasting state resources just to remain in power,” the statement fumed.
EKSU Attack Sparks Outrage
The campaign pointed to the recent invasion of hostels around Ekiti State University by gunmen as clear evidence that insecurity has reached alarming levels under the Oyebanji administration.
According to reports, armed attackers stormed off-campus hostels, robbing students and sending many fleeing for their lives in the dead of night.
A terrified student had cried out online:
“Armed men are attacking students in their hostels at midnight! We are supposed to be reading for exams… this has been happening for days!”
The campaign described the incident as “a dangerous and shameful dimension of insecurity” unfolding right in the state capital.
Kidnappings, Banditry Now ‘Normal’ in Ekiti
Oluyede’s camp further cited recent incidents across the state, including a kidnapping in Erinmope-Ekiti condemned by the pan-Yoruba group Afenifere.
In the case, an elderly man was reportedly abducted on his way to church, alongside family members, in a brazen attack that has heightened fear among residents.
The campaign also highlighted the worsening situation in areas like Irele and Oke Ako, where bandits and armed herdsmen allegedly operate freely—destroying farms, terrorising villagers, and demanding outrageous ransoms, including cash, drugs, and alcohol.
“Ekiti people are now living in fear in their own land. Communities have become no-go areas after 8 pm. This is a complete collapse of governance,” the statement declared.
“Oyebanji Govt is an Aberration”
The Campaign Organisation did not mince words, describing the APC administration as a “total failure” and an “aberration” that must be voted out.
“Can Ekiti people tolerate this beyond June? The answer is NO,” the statement stressed.
“June 20: Time to End the Nightmare”
Addressing supporters at the “Restoration of Hope” mega rally in Ikere-Ekiti, Oluyede promised to deploy his expertise and leadership capacity to tackle insecurity and restore confidence in governance.
He assured residents that his administration would prioritise safety, revive the economy, and bring a new lease of life to the state.
Final Warning to Voters
Oluyede issued a stern warning to voters not to fall for what he described as APC’s “deceit and vote-buying tactics,” insisting that selling votes would only prolong suffering.
“Selling your vote is signing up for more killings, kidnapping, hunger, and poverty,” he warned.
With the election just weeks away, the PDP candidate urged Ekiti people to rise en masse and use their votes to end what he called “years of APC failure and suffering.”
“Enough is enough. Ekiti must be rescued,” he declared.
