A tragic incident has rocked Abuja following the reported death of a Nigerian lawyer, Abdulsalami Ginsau, who allegedly suffocated after being trapped inside a hotel elevator.
The heartbreaking development was made public by former senator, Shehu Sani, who disclosed the incident via his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday.
According to him, the lawyer was stuck in the lift for an extended period, eventually leading to his death due to suffocation.
“The case of Barrister Abdulsalami Ginsau is pathetic. He was reportedly trapped in an Abuja hotel lift and he suffocated to death,” Sani wrote.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, raising serious questions about safety standards and emergency response systems in public facilities.
Sani queried whether the tragedy may have been caused by a power failure, technical malfunction, or sheer negligence.
“Could it be that power supplying the lift ceased? Could it be that the lift has technical issues? Or is it just a tragic fate?” he asked.
Outrage, Concerns Over Public Safety
The incident has sparked concern among Nigerians, with many calling for urgent investigations into safety compliance in hotels and public buildings, particularly regarding elevator maintenance and emergency preparedness.
There are growing fears that lapses in basic infrastructure management could put more lives at risk if not urgently addressed.
Observers say the tragedy underscores the need for stricter enforcement of safety regulations, regular maintenance checks, and functional emergency systems in elevators across the country.
As reactions continue to pour in, many Nigerians are demanding accountability to ensure that such a devastating and avoidable loss does not happen again.
The late lawyer has been described as a promising professional whose life was cut short in a deeply unfortunate and distressing circumstance.
“May Allah grant him Aljanna Firdausi,” Sani prayed.
