Panic and chaos erupted at Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, late Monday night as suspected gunmen reportedly stormed student hostels, robbing occupants of phones, laptops, and cash in a brazen midnight raid.

The attackers, said to have targeted off-campus hostels, moved from building to building, leaving terrified students scrambling for safety in what many described as a night of horror.

A distressed student, identified on X as @yapperaholicc, raised the alarm around 3:01 a.m. Tuesday, revealing that the attacks had persisted for days.

“Armed men are attacking students in their hostels in EKSU at midnight! We are supposed to be reading for our exams! This has been happening for three days!” the student cried out.

The student further disclosed that the assaults occurred in the Phase 2 axis of the university community, intensifying fears among residents and students preparing for examinations.

The incident has sparked fresh outrage over the deteriorating security situation in Ekiti State, with many questioning the capacity of the government of Biodun Oyebanji to protect lives and property.

Students and residents have accused authorities of failing to act decisively despite repeated incidents, warning that the unchecked attacks are fast turning the university environment into a danger zone.

Police Confirm Arrest, Promise Action
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abutu Sunday, stated that one suspect has been arrested and is currently under investigation.

He added that security measures have been reinforced to prevent further attacks.

“A suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident, and necessary steps have been taken to forestall a recurrence,” he said.

Despite the police assurances, students have continued to demand immediate and visible action, calling for increased patrols and improved security presence across the university community.

Many insist that until concrete steps are taken, fear will continue to overshadow academic activities, with students forced to choose between their safety and their education.
