The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who congratulated Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the fasting period.
He urged Nigerians, particularly Muslims, to sustain the values of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice learned during Ramadan.
The minister also called on citizens to use the festive period to pray for Nigeria’s unity and prosperity, while encouraging acts of kindness towards the less privileged.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting national unity and peaceful coexistence across the country.
