The Abimbola Olajumoke Campaign Organisation has condemned what it described as the unlawful invasion of the Abuja residence of governorship aspirant, Abimbola Olajumoke Olawumi, and the alleged arrest, assault and abduction of her son, Adeniyi Oluwagbotemi, by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force.
In a press statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Pastor Dr. Abiodun Oluyole, and made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, the campaign organisation alleged that the incident occurred on February 19, 2026, at Olajumoke’s private residence in Abuja.
The group further alleged that the police operatives were sent from Ekiti State to arrest the aspirant ahead of a scheduled court appearance on February 20, 2026. Olajumoke, an aspirant in the Ekiti 2026 governorship race under the All Progressives Congress (APC), is reportedly challenging her alleged disqualification before a Federal High Court in Abuja.
According to the statement, when the officers arrived and met her absence, they allegedly assaulted her son, who was at home at the time. The organisation claimed the young man was beaten and sustained injuries, bleeding from the mouth and nose, before being taken away. It added that neighbours who attempted to intervene and record the incident were also allegedly assaulted.
The campaign organisation expressed shock over what it described as “barbaric and callous” conduct and called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to intervene and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
The group also alleged that Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, and Senator Yemi Adaramodu were behind the police action, claiming the governor stood to benefit from the aspirant’s alleged disqualification. It further criticised the Ekiti State Government for not issuing a public statement condemning the alleged incident.
The organisation maintained that the victim is currently receiving medical treatment for injuries and trauma sustained during the incident. It urged human rights organisations to intervene, alleging that security agencies were being used as instruments of political intimidation.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Ekiti State Government nor the Ekiti State Police Command had issued an official statement responding to the allegations.
Efforts to reach spokespersons for Governor Oyebanji and Senator Adaramodu for comments were unsuccessful. Similarly, the Nigeria Police Force has not publicly confirmed the alleged operation or responded to claims of misconduct.
The development comes amid heightened political activities ahead of the Ekiti 2026 governorship election, with internal party disputes reportedly generating tension within the APC in the state.
