The Confederation of African Football (AFCON) Executive and Disciplinary Committees are set to meet today, Tuesday, January 27, 2026, to deliberate on the controversial incidents that overshadowed the AFCON 2025 final between Morocco and Senegal.

The hearing, which was originally slated for Sunday, was rescheduled following a formal appeal by the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF). Senegalese officials requested a postponement to allow their legal team more time to prepare a robust defense against the pending charges.

In a move to ensure the “neutrality and credibility” of the investigation, CAF has officially recused Ousmane Kane from presiding over the case. Kane, who is Senegalese and serves as the President of the CAF Disciplinary Committee, was removed to eliminate any potential conflict of interest.

CAF emphasized that this procedural step was necessary to safeguard the integrity of the process and ensure that the final verdict is seen as fair by all parties involved.

The deliberations come at a time of peak friction between the two footballing giants. In the wake of the final, the FSF President has leveled a series of public accusations against both the host nation, Morocco, and the continental governing body, CAF.

The disciplinary committee is expected to review reports of on-field altercations during the final match, allegations of poor officiating and administrative bias and conduct of fans and team officials in the stadium.

While CAF has not officially listed the possible penalties, industry experts suggest that the hearing could result in fines, for both federations regarding player or official misconduct, or suspensions for specific players or coaching staff identified in match reports.

A final decision is expected to be communicated late tonight or early Wednesday morning.
