Renowned Nigerian writer and global literary figure, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, has reportedly lost one of her twin sons, Nkanu Nnamdi.
Adichie, who is internationally celebrated for award-winning novels such as Half of a Yellow Sun and Americanah, is married to Ivara Esege, a medical doctor and entrepreneur.
The couple welcomed twin boys in recent years, a development that drew widespread goodwill across Nigeria and the global literary community.
According to information made available by Arise News, a Nigerian television news network with international reach, the infant reportedly passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, after a brief illness.
Details surrounding the illness have not been publicly disclosed, in line with the family’s preference for privacy.
It was gathered that the news of the child’s death began circulating early on Thursday, January 8, 2026, prompting an outpouring of sympathy from writers, academics, cultural figures, and admirers across Africa, Europe, and North America.
