Makinde presents N891.98bn 2026 budget to Oyo House

Oyo State governor , Engr Seyi Makinde, on Monday, presented the 2026 budget estimate to the state House of Assembly.
The presentation was done at a special sitting of the House in the Assembly Chambers, Secretariat, Ibadan.

The Appropriation Bill was tagged “Budget of Economic Expansion.”

Explaining the breakdown of the document, Governor Makinde said: “Our goal for this budget is to build on the gains from the 2025 ‘Budget of Economic Stabilisation’ to further grow the Oyo State economy.

“The total budget sum is ₦891,985,074,480.79.
“With this budget we are closer than ever to the ideal 60/40 ratio between capital and recurrent expenditures.

“The capital expenditure is ₦502,846,477,812.85, representing 56.37 per cent of the total budget, while the recurrent expenditure of ₦389,138,596,667.94 is 43.63 per cent.”

The sectors that got the Lion’s share are infrastructure, education, health and agriculture, in that order.

Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin, said there were painstaking activities of relevant stakeholders that culminated in preparation of the document.

“The budget proposal is the outcome of engagement with all relevant stakeholders.

“As a legislature, we remain steadfast in our oversight responsibilities and we will ensure the budget gets the attention it requires,” he said.

Ogundoyin, however, appealed ministries, departments and agencies of government to sick to the schedule of budget defence, so that the budget could be passed possibly by December 11 2025.

The state Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Professor Musbau Babatunde, said instead of the three geopolitical zones that inclusivity and stakeholders’ meeting used to hold preparatory to budget preparation, the governor instructed that the exercise held in all seven parts of the state.

The event was attended by government functionaries, traditional rulers, leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state as well as captains of industry, among others.
