A mosque in Turkey renamed after Super Eagles ace Victor Osimhen on Google Maps, has prompted reactions from Muslim adherents in the region who frequently visit the praying ground.

The 26-year-old recently joined Galatasaray on a permanent deal. His arrival was a significant event in Turkey, as Istanbul recorded its highest-ever internet data traffic on the night of his unveiling. His becoming a full-fledged Cim-Bom has also seen a mosque start to bear his name.

According to a report from Fanatik, a mosque in the central Karatay district initially called Bulut Mosque has been renamed on Google Maps to Victor Osimhen Mosque.

The Muslim congregation of the mosque is not happy with the change, and they have expressed their displeasure. The reactions ranged from terming the change disrespectful, given Victor is a Christian name, to others who just dislike the change from the norm.

One congregant said, “We have been a congregation of Bulut Mosque since we have been here. We are against it being changed to Victor Osimhen. The name Victor Osimhen is Christian. As the mosque congregation, we want the authorities to look into this issue.”

“It’s a shame to name a non-Muslim and make a mockery of it. We consider it an insult to Muslims, the mosque community, and mosques themselves. We urge the authorities to introduce regulations to prevent such changes from being made so easily,” another said.

A third said, “On the internet, the location says the mosque is in Victor Osimhen ‘s name, but this has been the Bulut Mosque for 10 years. Everyone has known this place as such. He is not a football player from Konyaspor.”
