The Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, EKSU, Prof. Joseph Ayodele, has said that an upward review of the monthly subvention by the State government will,l, to a large extent, address the financial challenges facing the institution.
Prof.Ayodele pointed out this at a press conference to herald the 29th Convocation of the school which activities kicked off Monday, March 24,2025. Other programs lined up continue Tuesday, March 25, convocation lecture, Wednesday, March 26, Football match between EKSU students and BOUESTI students, Thursday, March 27, convocation meeting, Friday, March 28, award of sub-degree, first degree and presentation of honorary degrees, and Saturday, March 29, Conferment of Post-graduate diploma, Masters and Doctorate degrees.
He underscored that since he assumed duties as the helmsman of the EKSU, a lot of positive developments have been recorded. Adding that these were made possible by the harmonious working relationship existing between the management and the various trade unions in the school. According to him,” the staff are not embarking on strike because of improved welfare”.
Further, by the laws of the land, after following due process, the VC remarked, that within the last seven months of his administration, three staff were dismissed for abandonment of duty post, one was dismissed for sexual misconduct, twenty-one earned warning for various offenses, three persons barred from holding positions of responsibility for three years and nine persons had their appointments terminated.
Some of the infrastructural developments highlighted by the VC include:
– Renovation/painting of the university gate/fence;
– Remodelling of the out-patient department of the university health center building;
-Repainting of the EKSU International College fence/gate;
– Renovation of the advancement and linkages building;
– Renovation of the male and female students hostels;
– Repair of the roof of the Omolayo administrative building.
These are apart from other infrastructural developments facilitated by individuals.
He reiterated that the major challenge facing the institution is funding but revealed that the authorities look inward to generate what should be used to augment the subvention that comes from the government. “However, payment of salaries is not delayed for any reason”.
The convocation will produce sixteen thousand four hundred and forty-six graduates with 15,981 Bachelor’s degrees, of which 200 fall into First Class. Higher Degrees have 465 graduates for the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 sessions.

The university administrator said that under his leadership, EKSU has put machinery in place to further deepen the collaboration of the school with some top-rated universities in the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
In another development, the university will confer honorary doctorate degrees on three eminent Nigerians: The Senate Leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, the Executive Chairman of Federal Inland Revenue Service, Dr Zacch Adedeji, and the Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Industry, Dr Mansur Muhtar.
