Frontline governorship aspirant and astute businessman, Otunba Olugbenga Peter Obafemi (OPO), has called for peace, unity, and discipline among members of the Ekiti Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the party begins its congresses on Saturday, March 15, 2025.
Obafemi, who first contested for the PDP governorship ticket in 2006 and has remained consistent in his commitment to the party and the development of Ekiti State, emphasized the need for all stakeholders to work together to ensure a smooth and transparent process.
Reacting to the rescheduled congress dates announced by the PDP National Organizing Secretary, Hon. Umar M. Bature, he described the upcoming exercises as a crucial step in repositioning the party ahead of the 2026 governorship election. He urged all members to put aside personal interests and focus on strengthening the PDP for victory.
“These congresses are not just about electing party executives; they are about laying the foundation for the 2026 election. We must remain united, disciplined, and committed to our collective goal-winning back Ekiti State and delivering good governance. The current administration has failed, and it is our responsibility as a party to offer a credible alternative,” he said.
Obafemi, who has built a strong reputation in both business and politics, reminded PDP members that internal harmony is key if the party is to defeat the underperforming government of Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
He stressed the need for fair and credible congresses to produce leaders who can move the party forward.
The respected businessman is widely known for his contributions to aviation, particularly in pioneering direct flights from Atlanta, USA, to Nigeria, a milestone that improved international travel and strengthened economic ties.
Obafemi assured the people of Ekiti that his vision for the state is centered on economic prosperity, infrastructural development, and people-centered leadership.
As the PDP gears up for its congresses, beginning on Saturday, March 15, with the Ward Congresses and concluding on April 15 with the State Congress Appeal, Obafemi congratulated the people of Ekiti and extended his greetings to all PDP leaders, stakeholders, and party faithful across the state.
He urged them to remain steadfast and united in the quest to reclaim power.
“Ekiti deserves better. The upcoming congresses are a major step toward a greater future. We must make the right choices now to secure progress, development, and responsible governance in 2026,” he concluded.
