A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and governorship aspirant in next year’s election in Ekiti State, Otunba Olugbenga Peter Obafemi, has described the death of the leader of the Pan-Niger Delta Elders’ Forum (PANDEF), Chief Edwin Clark, as “another rare nationalist lost.”

Obafemi also commiserated with the people of the Niger Delta Region of the country over the death of the elder statesman.

Barely a week after the demise of a nationalist and an Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, a co-patriot, Chief Clark, died on Monday at 97.

The former Federal Commissioner for Information and South-South leader’s death was confirmed in a statement by a representative of the family, Professor C. C. Clark, on Tuesday.

“The Clark-Fuludu Bekederemo family of Kiagbodo Town, Delta State, wishes to announce the passing of Chief (Dr.) Sen. Edwin Kiagbodo Clark OFR, CON on Monday, 17th February 2025.

“The family appreciates your prayers at this time. Other details will be announced later by the family,” Professor Clark said in the statement.

Otunba Obafemi, in a condolences statement released by the Olugbenga Peter Obafemi (OPO) Media Vanguard on Tuesday, said Edwin Clark’s death was another blow to the depleting ranks of the nation’s true nationalists.

“The news of Chief Edwin Clark’s death hit the nation like a Thunderbolt. This is surely another true nationalist loss.

“The late Clark was not only passionate about the well-being of the people of the Niger Delta but also a progressive Nigeria.

“Chief Clark was a strong, bold, honest, and humane leader of his people. We have lost yet another leader who loves Nigeria, a fighter for justice, equity, and development.

“On behalf of my campaign organization and teeming supporters, I commiserate with Nigerians, particularly the people of the South-South region, on the demise of this leader.

“His immediate family should be comforted by the fact that Chief Clark lived a life of service and selflessness,” the statement read.
