The Oyo State Ministry of Youths and Sports has hinted that it is launching a Utility Card for payments for use of the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.

This hint was dropped in a statement signed by the state Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Honourable Wasilat Adegoke, and made available to newsmen in Ibadan at the weekend.

The commissioner, who described the Utility Card as a cutting-edge solution designed to simplify fee collections at the stadium, stated that the introduction of the card for contactless payments was the first of such innovation in any West African stadium.

She declared that the innovative Utility Card would revolutionise payment processes for services and events at the stadium, offering sports fans and other users of the stadium a hassle-free cashless experience.

According to the Commissioner, the Utility Card would promote efficiency and convenience in managing stadium access and services.

“This initiative is part of the state’s larger agenda to modernise sports infrastructure and improve service delivery at all sporting facilities.

“The Oyo State Utility Card will serve as a versatile payment tool for ticketing, parking, concessions, and other stadium services,” Adegoke said.

The utility card, which goes for ₦500, can be easily recharged via bank apps, Points of Sale (POS) devices, and at the stadium itself, offering multiple convenient options for users.

The commissioner further stated that the integration of the card into the stadium’s payment system would occur in phases, with regular updates provided to the public to ensure smooth adoption.

She assured that the adoption of the card would reduce reliance on cash for quicker and more efficient payments.

Adegoke encouraged members of the public, sports enthusiasts and other stakeholders to support the the innovation which she described as another milestone in Governor Seyi Makinde’s ongoing efforts to improve sports infrastructure and deliver world-class services to the people of Oyo State.
