Please, share this story:
African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said it would pick its candidate for the 2027 presidential election through consensus.
The party however said it would opt for a competitive primary election if those seeking the party’s presidential ticket fail to agree on consensus.
ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, disclosed this on Thursday while speaking on an Arise Television programme.
He said the party would not allow itself to be distracted by zoning debates or early presidential declarations by members.
Abdullahi stressed that the priority of the ADC is building robust structures nationwide, noting that leadership is about knowing what to do and when to do it.
The ADC spokesman said, “Atiku says he will run, Obi says he will run, Amaechi says he will run, that does not stop anyone else. What we are committed to is a level playing ground. We will pursue consensus, and if that fails, we will hold competitive primaries.
“For us, our focus now is building a fighting structure, not rushing into zoning conversations.”
Already, the ruling All Progressives Congress and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party have zoned their presidential tickets to the South ahead of the 2027 elections.
